The Mission:
The Hopkins Girls Basketball program is committed to maximizing player development on and off the court through mental preparation, basketball fundamentals, academic achievement, conditioning, character building, and commitment to excellence. Our goal is to become the most respected girls basketball program in the state of Minnesota.
Philosophy:
The Hopkins girls basketball player can come in any size, shape, or color. There is no common denominator except a love for the game and a desire to get the most out of your abilities. You should be proud of your strengths, but also understand your weaknesses. You must first be concerned with the good of the team and know that if you work hard and stay positive, the individual recognition will come through team excellence. Above all, have fun playing the game.
Players are made and not born. You should always be constantly striving to reach your potential knowing that if you do, you will bypass other players who can not withstand the strain of our quest for excellence. Hopkins girls basketball players realize that the challenges and competition of today's game will better prepare you for tomorrow's world.
The true measure of one's performance is not based on what level you play at, or in wins or losses, but in how much of yourself you have given to the game.
We always want to do the best we can, never cut any corners, hustle and listen to our teachers and coaches. If we do this that’s all any one can expect including yourself. Winning is not the most important thing, but working hard and doing your best is.
Offensive Philosophy:
We will be fundamentally sound. Execute with attention to the smallest detail. Realize that the most important skill is to have the ability to make our teammates better. We will push the ball up the floor in a controlled disciplined fast break. To be successful we must be able to dictate tempo on the defensive side of the ball.
Defensive Philosophy:
We will be an aggressive attacking defensive team designed to dictate tempo. We want to create chaos for the offensive teams by utilizing ball pressure and multiple defenses. Emphasis will be put on blocking out and rebounding the basketball; and making the offensive team make poor decisions as to shot selection.
